Peter Karp

Genre : Singer/Musician

Songwriter. Guitarist. Singer. Pianist. Bandleader.
Operating within the fiery brand of roots/blues music that Karp calls "Soul-influenced Americana-Blues-Rock."

The music is crackling with smart and witty lyrics. His ability to give the audience such a great time while doing it is refreshing. Ever the multi-tasker, Karp bounces between several instruments, handling electric resonator slide guitar, acoustic guitar — as well as harmonica and piano.

Each song is driven home with his soulful voice and original songwriting style. Karp first saw national attention when guitarist Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones recorded and toured with Karp on his third indie release.
Signed to Blind Pig Records he released several more albums, including two with Sue Foley, that worked their way to the top of the Blues and Billboard Charts.

A common theme they possess is Karp’s heartfelt, critically acclaimed songwriting amidst a group of masterful musicians.

BEYOND THE CROSSROADS
(with Sue Foley)

Blind Pig Records, Stony Plain Records

Peter Karp and Sue Foley play on the original tunes, and sing -- sometimes trading verses -- on all but one instrumental. The opening upbeat shuffle "We're Gonna Make It" (not the Little Milton hit) adds a four-piece horn section and sounds as joyous as its somewhat clichéd title implies. But it sets the stage for the next 35 minutes of sharply written, energized, soul- and blues-influenced rock performed by two talents that truly complement each other.

THE ARSON’S MATCH
(With Mick Taylor)

Karp Foley Music

Recorded at The Bottom Line in Greenwich Village and part of a two-CD set called Live For Hope, Karp is donating 100 per cent of the proceeds from this disc to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund in memory of wife Mary Lou, who lost her life to the disease in 2009. “The Arson’s Match,” a description of losing everything in a house fire, kicks off the album. It’s a straight-ahead blues set atop a medium shuffle with some nice stop-time breaks and features an extended solos from Taylor and Gruenling before Peter comes to the fore on slide. The mood quiets dramatically but brightens quickly for “Gee Cheengee Chee Wawa,” about a mystic woman in a remote corner of Mexico.

ALABAMA TOWN

Rose Cottage Records

Dedicated to his stepmother, Ruth Turner, who left us late last year, Alabama Town is a welcome follow-up to The Arson’s Match, a nominee for a 2016 Blues Blast Music Award in the best live album category. All proceeds from that release went to ovarian cancer research in honor of his late wife, and much of the material, like the title tune which dealt with losing a home to a firebug, was pretty dark in nature. This new, all-original release is much lighter as Karp sings from the heart about everyday life and the problems it presents.
